PCA 100R Robot-Controlled Video-Based Contact Angle Meter

Description:
Contact angle measuring device for the automatic measurement of the wetting behavior of solids (e.g. wafers or glass substrates for flat panel displays) under clean-room conditions of any substrate size, as well as for series tests and systematic analysis. The PCA 100R enables the reduction of subjective factors and time involved for contact angle measurements in quality control and production inspection. The instrument is available as a portable, hand-held system or integrable in a process automation with different kind of robot systems.

Typical fields of application:

For the software-controlled measurement and analysis of

  • the static and dynamic contact angle according to the Sessile Drop method
  • the wetting behavior on solid surfaces
  • the surface free energy of solids and their components
  • the surface tension out of the analysis of the drop shape

Equipment:

The PCA 100R consists of the basic instrument with the following technical equipment:

  • Measuring head with integrated optics, illumination and multiple dosing unit
  • high-performance, telecentric lens with high light transmitting capacity and integrated aperture
  • Video measuring system with high-resolution CCD-camera
  • High-performance video digitizing board (frame grabber) for the PC
  • Illumination with continuously adjustable intensity for a homogeneous back lighting
  • Control and measuring electronics for selection and positioning of the dosing needles
  • Power supply with automatic voltage adjustment

Features of performance:

The 32-bit software SPCA 100 developed for Windows XP/2000/NT offers by various expansion steps:
  • Control of the needle selection and the position in Z-direction, the illumination, and the electronic dosing system
  • Static and dynamic contact angle measurement according to the Sessile Drop method
  • Calculation of surface and interfacial tensions from the contour of a pendant or a sessile drop
  • Calculation of the surface free energy of solids and their components (e.g. dispersion, polar and hydrogen bond force contribution, acid and base portions respectively) according to the theories of Wu, Zisman, Owens-Wendt, Extended Fowkes, Schultz 1 + 2, Fowkes and van Oss & Good
  • Statistics and measurement error analysis
